Genna Rollins provides a detailed description of the tour undertaken by a group from the Theodore Roosevelt Association (TRA) in June 2007 to sites connected with the wartime service of Lieutenant Quentin Roosevelt and Brigadier General Theodore Roosevelt. Rollins highlights the military cemeteries and memorials connected to the Roosevelt brothers, and she traces the group’s itinerary through France, highlighting material gained from the group’s tour leader. Rollins emphasizes the service of the Roosevelt brothers, noting Lieutenant Roosevelt’s brief tour as a combat pilot and Brigadier General Roosevelt’s steady leadership on Utah Beach on June 6, 1944. Rollins concludes her article with brief stories of other notable Americans who served in World War I.

Obituary for William H. Harbaugh, best known for his 1961 biography of Theodore Roosevelt, Power and Responsibility: The Life and Times of Theodore Roosevelt. The obituary highlights Harbaugh’s service during World War II, his two biographies, and his teaching career at the University of Virginia. It also describes his work in preserving Pine Knot, Roosevelt’s rustic retreat in Virginia. A photograph of Harbaugh with Lawrence H. Budner of the Theodore Roosevelt Association appears at the center of the first page of the obituary, and a text box with information about Harbaugh’s pamphlet on Pine Knot appears at its conclusion.

William Davison Johnston records the achievements of Captain Edward L. Beach, United States Navy, both for his heroic service aboard submarines during World War II, as well as his command of the USS Triton which completed the first submerged circumnavigation of the globe in 1960. Johnston also notes Beach’s considerable body of work as an author of both fiction and nonfiction titles on naval topics. Johnston compares Beach to Theodore Roosevelt and finds him a worthy recipient of the Theodore Roosevelt Distinguished Service Medal.

The notice relates one of the gang’s White House encounters with President Roosevelt and the popularity that the children gained during Roosevelt’s presidency. Looker’s service in both World Wars is recounted as is his work as a speech writer for President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Norman V. McLeod recalls in detail the positive experiences he had during the six months he spent in the Civilian Conservation Corps. Because he was not needed at the camp in Medora, North Dakota, McLeod spent two weeks there and was then transferred to northern Minnesota. McLeod reflects on the impacts the CCC had on him, the training he received, and the people with whom he worked. McLeod also includes a short note with more information on the two weeks he spent in Medora, and returns the letter sent to him with the questionnaire with a short note on it as well.
