Letter from Theodore Roosevelt to Theodore Roosevelt

Theodore “Ted” Roosevelt continues his previous letter to his father, Theodore Roosevelt, on President William H. Taft’s reelection campaign. He plans to leave politics once the current municipal race is over. He will publicly support Taft, but he will not actively campaign for him. According to Ted, the California legislature has been inconsistent, passing some useful and some silly measures in the most recent session. This has caused the public to lose some confidence in government leadership. Roosevelt’s wife, Eleanor, and daughter, Grace, are doing well. Ted hopes his father and mother will be able to visit them soon. He looks forward to reading the article written by his brother, Kermit.

Letter from Theodore Roosevelt to Theodore Roosevelt

Ted Roosevelt comments on a letter his father, President Roosevelt, wrote. He believes it accomplished a double purpose, addressing what the President wants to do regarding the unions and also helping the Political Club. Ted relayed the elder’s message to “the boys” about dining with them during his upcoming visit to Harvard. Ted saw Samuel P. Blagden and is going to invite him to stay with them for Easter.

Letter from Theodore Roosevelt to Theodore Roosevelt

Theodore Roosevelt writes his father, President Roosevelt, with suggestions regarding an upcoming speech to be made at Harvard University. The younger Roosevelt explains that many college men are also on the staffs of newspapers and so it will be impossible for Roosevelt to keep his speech from the papers. The younger Roosevelt also recommends avoiding dealing with Harvard University President Charles William Elliot too harshly and giving the speech under the auspices of the Political Club. He also recommends not replying to this letter until Arthur C. Blagden and Robert Low Bacon have written the elder Roosevelt.
