Letter from Francis B. Loomis to William Loeb

Relating to the proposed visit of His Britannic Majesty’s Second Cruiser Squadron, under the command of Rear Admiral, Prince Louis of Battenberg, to the ports of New York and Annapolis, next October, and their reception by President Roosevelt, Acting Secretary of State Loomis encloses a copy of a statement showing the names, rank and seniority of Prince Louis of Battenberg’s staff and of the Captains of the several ships under his command.

Telegram from Alvey A. Adee to Theodore Roosevelt

Acting Secretary of State Adee relays for President Roosevelt his meeting with Japanese Minister Kogoro Takahira regarding the Russian steamer Lena. The Japanese government expects the United States to deal with the steamer “without delay,” and Adee told Takahira that the necessary steps are underway to examine the ship and make repairs if necessary.

Letter from Paul Morton to William Loeb

Secretary of the Navy Morton writes William Loeb after unsuccessfully trying to reach him by phone, and updates him on the situation with the Russian steamer Lena, which is docked in San Francisco. Morton would like President Roosevelt to state which department should handle the matter, but says that everyone involved currently understands that the State Department is in charge.
