Ambassador Mayor des Planches of Italy compliments President Roosevelt on his written works. For the edification of his countrymen, he asks permission to publish a book entitled La Mente di un Uomo di Stato Americano, which translates to The Mind of a Man in the United States. The book would excerpt Roosevelt’s writings and include a biographical sketch of Roosevelt along with Mayor des Planches’s notes to elucidate for the Italian reader any “data and facts which he may ignore.”

President Roosevelt writes to William A. Baillie-Grohman concerning a foreword he had written for the 1904 reprint of Master of Game. Roosevelt is upset by the way Joseph Benson Gilder has proposed to publish his writing as if it had been a special article and not a foreword to the book, and has consequently prohibited its publishing.

Houghton Mifflin has been approached by Gebbie & Company and asked to allow two of their copyrighted works by President Roosevelt to be included in a complete edition of Roosevelt’s works. Houghton Mifflin wants to make sure that Gebbie & Company has Roosevelt’s permission for this proposed publication before proceeding. Gebbie & Company will pay $2,500 for the rights, and this money will be split between Houghton Mifflin and President Roosevelt.
