Kenyon, William Squire, 1869-1933

Congressional Charter for the then Roosevelt Memorial Association established in May 1920 that lists the original incorporators and includes some of the key provisions guiding the organization. These include stipulations that the association will be governed by a board of trustees; that its income will go only to further its educational goals; and that it will work to establish memorials to Theodore Roosevelt in Washington, D.C. and Oyster Bay, New York.

A staff correspondent writes of the political situations in Kansas and Iowa developing around the potential presidential nominees and senators from each state. Many possibilities and political stances are suggested including the idea that Senator Albert Baird Cummins would be a compromise for Republicans who are split between William H. Taft and Robert M. La Follette, though Cummins is a solid supporter of La Follette and will not run against him. Many believe a third party might arise amongst the division.

Theodore Roosevelt is pleased by Albert Shaw’s writing in the Review of Reviews. Roosevelt discusses his views of the Progressive Party as a new party comparable to the Republican Party after it broke away from the Whig Party. Roosevelt discusses the Progressive Party running as a third party and also agrees with Shaw about the Vice-Presidency.

Theodore Roosevelt objects to Senator Kenyon’s statement that the Progressives hope to usurp the Republican party power from Senator Kenyon in favor of William Barnes, Winthrop Murray Crane, and Boies Penrose. Roosevelt contends that neither Albert Baird Cummins nor Herbert S. Hadley could have won the Republican nomination over President Taft. Roosevelt also negates Cummins’s comments about Roosevelt’s hope to win the Republican nomination himself.
