President Roosevelt explains to Senator Culberson his actions regarding Mary William Houston Morrow, daughter of Sam Houston. Roosevelt appointed Morrow as postmistress at Abilene, Texas, in recognition of her father’s accomplishments. When her office was investigated by the post office and it was recommended that she be removed, Roosevelt intervened to give her another chance. After a recent second evaluation, it was determined that Morrow should be removed, and Roosevelt felt that he could no longer do anything to prevent it.

William Loeb informs Senator Culberson that Edith Kermit Carow Roosevelt cannot invite any more people to her garden party, and thus is unable to honor his request. Senators are only allowed to bring their wives, or if the wife cannot come, the eldest unmarried daughter.

President Roosevelt informs Senator Culberson that he is already discussing the expulsion of cadet William J. Nalle from West Point with Secretary of War Luke E. Wright. Roosevelt finds that the case is entirely different from that of midshipman James M. Haralson, who was recently expelled from the Naval Academy. Nalle should be disciplined, but his career should not be ruined over it.
