Since returning home, Jean G. McCracken, assistant probation officer for the Los Angeles County Juvenile Court, has frequently thought about C. Wilfred Bourne and the Golden Gate Orphanage. While McCracken typically opposes orphanages and institutions, he approves of the work Bourne does and of the environment he has created for the orphaned children.

Luther Burbank regrets that he cannot give Major Bourne a more thorough opinion of his home beyond this letter. He found Bourne’s home well-run and his children happily engaged in work on the farm.

Walter Finch Price recently visited C. Wilfred Bourne’s orphanage, and was pleased to see the many improvements that have been made. He regrets that Bourne suffers from a lack of funds, and is certain that if the public knew more of Bourne’s good work at the Golden Gate Orphanage & Farm, they would contribute significant amounts to its continuation.
