This postcard shows Lal Lal Falls, in the vicinity of Ballarat. The gorge into which the falls pour is lined with a multitude of trees. Charles C. Myers adds some details about Ballarat, placing it approximately 100 miles north-west of Melbourne, and noting that the largest nuggets of gold ever discovered have come from the mines of Ballarat.

Comments and Context

In Charles C. Myers’s own words, “A ride from Melbourne to Ballarat is one of pleasure and excitement. Ballarat is a mining town about 100 miles north west from Melbourne and it is the leading gold mine center of Australia. The mountain scenery along the way is indeed beautiful.”
