William J. Hansard

William J. Hansard, Public Historian, completed his PhD in History at the University of Texas at Arlington, as well as certifications in archival administration and public history. Dr. Hansard is a scholar of the United States during the Gilded Age and Progressive Era.

As a public historian for the Theodore Roosevelt Center, Dr. Hansard develops lectures and presentations for students and public groups, gives guided tours of the Center’s exhibits and library, assists in reference requests, gives interviews, curates content for the Center’s social media feeds, and is the primary author of posts for the Center’s Substack blog, The Bully Pulpit.

Dr. Hansard’s role also involves serving the community through positions on boards and committees, including the North Dakota Historic Preservation Review Board, the City of Dickinson Historic Preservation Commission, the Stark County Historical Society, and the Southwest North Dakota Museum Foundation. He is also involved in National History Day in North Dakota, serving as a contest judge and assisting in contest coordination for the Western Region.
