President Roosevelt has asked twice for the wood pulp duty to be taken off, and he would ask again if he thought Congress would do it. As it is, he thinks such a request would weaken his position on injunctions and antitrust law.

President Roosevelt instructs Attorney General Bonaparte to tell the proper people in the Justice Department to prepare to answer the inquiry about the wood pulp issue. Roosevelt would like the answer to include Milton Dwight Purdy’s statement, and to show what action the administration has taken.

President Roosevelt regretfully informs Senator Lodge that Attorney General William H. Moody and Secretary of the Treasury Leslie M. Shaw believe that the suit regarding “that Ross pulp wood matter” should not be discontinued, even though it is unlikely to be successful.
