President Roosevelt tells Austrian Ambassador Hengelmüller von Hengervár that he believes the Boone and Crockett Club will be able to undertake the planning of an international hunting exhibition and suggests Hengelmüller von Hengervár contact William Austin Wadsworth, the president of the club.

Elizabeth Green Perkins Wadsworth invites Edith Kermit Carow Roosevelt and her family, including Theodore Roosevelt, Ethel Roosevelt, and Kermit Roosevelt, to visit her and her husband, William Austin Wadsworth, at their homestead for a week in October. Wadsworth also expresses her relief that Roosevelt’s recent fall was not serious.

Theodore Roosevelt writes his son Kermit and is concerned he has not been getting his letters so that he does not know he has been appointed a captain of artillery and must report to Madrid, Spain. He says Flora Payne Whitney has permission from her father to go to Europe and marry Quentin Roosevelt and Quentin is upset there are still no planes to fly over France. Roosevelt reports that Major Wadsworth is dead and the son of his friend Frederick Courteney Selous was killed.

President Roosevelt writes his son Kermit to say Ted Roosevelt is visiting and as soon as Kermit finishes school, they will go to Oyster Bay to practice with the rifles before leaving for their African hunting trip. Ethel is busy with the debutante season and Major William Austin Wadsworth is visiting. Roosevelt says they rode the horses and went to some art exhibitions.

President Roosevelt is eager to plan his visit to Cambridge, Massachusetts with William Sturgis Bigelow, including breakfasts with friends and statesmen, and a lunch with his son Theodore Roosevelt Jr. at the Sphinx in Mount Auburn Cemetery.

President Roosevelt hopes F. V. Greene’s wife will enjoy her brief trip to Europe and wishes Walter W. Warwick will travel to Manila soon. Roosevelt discusses his efforts in bringing about the peace conference to end the Russo-Japanese War and says that although it is a great success and he is being broadly praised, he is sure that by next year, new issues will have arisen, and he will be attacked in the press.

Theodore Roosevelt found the March 10 issue of George Bird Grinnell’s Forest and Stream being circulated by the men from the lumber and cold storage lobby who are trying to defeat Roosevelt’s nominee for the Forest, Fish, and Game Commission. Roosevelt’s nominations for the Commission all had political backing, and he is facing challenges in getting them confirmed. Roosevelt chose the men he did because his “business was to improve the Commission.”

George Bird Grinnell lets Theodore Roosevelt know that the American Game Protective Association is all right. Everyone is doing what they can to forward “the cause of game protection and good sportsmanship.” Grinnell does not feel that Roosevelt should have any “uneasiness” about the endorsement he is giving the American Game Protective Association.
