Vice President Roosevelt wants to meet the “Spokane brother-in-law” when he arrives. Roosevelt supports the Isthmian Canal and has done so publicly. He had a good time in Vermont with Stewart’s father even though their time was cut short by the attempted assassination of President McKinley. Roosevelt is confident McKinley will recover.

Vice President Roosevelt is unsure how to advise Winthrop Murray Crane. He knows of a hunter in Wyoming who has hunted mountain lions during the winter and he has dogs. If Crane’s son would like to spend the winter further south, there is a man with hunting dogs near Meeker, Colorado, although that area’s climate is as severe as that of Wyoming. Roosevelt wants to talk with Crane about what has happened in several states.

Sanborn states how the people are dissatisfied with William H. Taft’s tariff policies and hopes Roosevelt decides to serve his American duty by honoring the presidential nomination.

Maxwell Evarts inquires if Theodore Roosevelt would be interested in attending an annual dinner held by the Vermont Fish and Game League in September after being unable to attend the year before. As president of the League, Evarts will send a formal invitation if so. The League would much appreciate his presence at an event which “practically represents the entire State of Vermont.”
