Arthur Hamilton Lee recently returned from Canada where he was on a mission to gather opinions related to the Alaskan Arbitration land dispute. Locals seems to be glad the matter is over, although there is resentment towards Newfoundland’s “modus vivendi.” Self-described “King of Newfoundland” Robert Gillespie Reid thinks only the basest politicians are against it.

James R. Sheffield invites President Roosevelt and First Lady Edith Kermit Carow Roosevelt to stay with his family at their camp in the Adirondack Mountains. He explains the amenities, accommodations, and activities of the area. He believes that Secretary of War William H. Taft could easily visit so Taft and Roosevelt could privately discuss “Panama, Cuba, spelling reform or Harvard’s chances in England or any other equally important question.”

Senator Platt reports that politically Theodore Roosevelt has “nothing to worry about” in Connecticut. Platt believes that support is also shifting toward Roosevelt in New York. Platt invites Roosevelt to his cabin in the Adirondacks hoping that the President can help Platt write his speech to be delivered at the Connecticut State Convention.

Vice President Roosevelt writes to Charles Benedict Davenport about the upcoming visit of famed marine biologist Alexander Agassiz. Roosevelt thought that Davenport had stated Agassiz was visiting in August, not July when Roosevelt will be away, and is sorry to miss him.
