Theodore Roosevelt writes to William Chauncey Langdon that it is not possible to write the requested letter. He is happy that the people of Thetford are doing all they can to develop their resources under the direction of the University of Vermont and the United States Department of Agriculture.

Theodore Roosevelt replies to Guy Benton, President of the University of Vermont, that Roosevelt would take Benton as a chaplain as he has enough Colonels. Roosevelt also thinks that no more than half of any unit should be made up of college men as there is a lot of rough work in a campaign.

William Chauncy Langdon reminds Theodore Roosevelt of the interest he had shown in the upcoming pageant of Thetford, Vermont, and of his promise to write a letter expressing this interest if he was sent a statement of facts of the work that is being done. Langdon accordingly sends Roosevelt a copy of an article he wrote for The Vermonter, which he believes will suffice for this purpose. Roosevelt’s letter will be a great encouragement to the people of Thetford.
