Senator Lodge responds to a note from President Roosevelt, urging him to vote for Senator Borah’s bill regarding the Children’s Bureau. Lodge explains he has always supported the bill and will vote for it, and he does not understand why Borah thought it necessary to apply to Roosevelt to appeal to him.
A handwritten postscript critiques the diary of Gideon Welles, former secretary of the navy for the United States. The more Lodge reads of the diary, the less he thinks of it, as it reveals the true nature of its author and the “evil influence” he had over President Johnson.
Senator Borah asks Theodore Roosevelt to contact Senators Henry Cabot Lodge, Charles Curtis, and Elihu Root to seek their support for passage of the Children’s Bureau bill.

Margaret Sanger discusses birth control in terms of several issues including infant mortality, population growth through fertility and immigration, unemployment, charity, abortion, and sterilization. She presents a great number of statistics and research. Sanger also states that birth control is an important topic that is not discussed as it should be. When former President Roosevelt called the first White House Conference in 1912, he addressed these issues but did not discuss how birth control was a remedy to these problems. The two following White House Conferences in 1929 and 1930 did not discuss birth control either.
