Drawn after Theodore Roosevelt died, the cartoon shows Roosevelt on horseback, dressed as a Rough Rider, turning in his saddle and waving his hat goodbye as he joins the vanishing symbols of the frontier such as the buffalo and covered wagons. The Capitol is sketched in the forefront.

Although he took a special interest in the bill that enabled the armory to be used for the festival, Roosevelt will not be able to attend the event due to a reunion of his regiment scheduled for the same day.

Theodore Roosevelt agrees with Archie Roosevelt’s view of the war, although he does not think it will last as long as Archie does. Roosevelt writes of how the elderly regular officers are no longer suited for this war and how the volunteer troops are better prepared in his own unit. He also mentions how pleased they are with Grace Stackpole Lockwood Roosevelt.

Theodore Roosevelt writes of how pleased he and Edith are to have Grace Stackpole Lockwood Roosevelt visiting them. His grandson, Richard Derby Jr., was taken to the hospital. Roosevelt then asks Archie to tell the lieutenants he is reading Longfellow’s Saga of King Olaf. He tells of his battles at San Juan and ends with explaining that the current administration does not wish to have Roosevelt’s help.
