President Roosevelt sends a list of nominations for the Council of Fine Arts and encloses a copy of the executive order he issued to create such a council.

President Roosevelt agrees with the American Institute of Architects’s suggestion to create a Council of Fine Arts to advise the government in matters relating to architecture, monuments, and the arts. He instructs the American Institute of Architects to compose a list of thirty men from around the country to serve as members of the Council, and expects that they will advocate for legislation to make the Council permanent. President Roosevelt also requests that the Council immediately report and advise on the creation of the Lincoln Memorial.

President Roosevelt would like the stone lion heads under the mantelpiece in the State Dining Room substituted with stone bison heads, as they are “a much more characteristic and American decoration.” This change will need to be done quickly, and he asks William M. Kendall to consult with Cass Gilbert, as he recently spoke with him and Samuel B. P. Trowbridge about it.

Corinne Roosevelt Robinson writes to William Loeb on behalf of her friend Samuel Beck Parkman Trowbridge, a prominent architect in New York, who wants to study the decorations in the Turkish palace. Because the palace is not always open to the public, Robinson wonders if William Loeb could ask President Roosevelt to write her friend a letter of introduction to Ambassador John George Alexander Leishman, who is stationed in Turkey.
