Ezra H. Fitch updates Theodore Roosevelt on the status of the supplies that he is packing to take to Africa, including the tent, and “old style matches on a comb.” The goods will be packed and ready on the wharf on Monday, where Fitch will meet Roosevelt. Letter from John L. Harrington to Theodore Roosevelt

Letter from John L. Harrington to Theodore Roosevelt

John L. Harrington tells President Roosevelt that whether any riding animals should be sent to the Upper Nile River depends on Roosevelt’s personal preference and where he hopes to begin shooting. Harrington can make the necessary arrangements regardless of what Roosevelt prefers. Harrington offers Roosevelt some advice regarding mosquitoes and mosquito tents, as they are very bad in the region Roosevelt will be traveling. He suggests that Roosevelt consider bringing a portable mosquito house that could be used both on the river steamer and on shore.

Letter from D. T. Abercrombie to Theodore Roosevelt

Letter from D. T. Abercrombie to Theodore Roosevelt

D. T. Abercrombie asks President Roosevelt what he thought about some samples of canvas that the David T. Abercrombie Company sent to him. The material, Abercrombie says, is the best material for tents, but he would like to have Roosevelt’s opinion on it, as the company hopes to sell him a tent for his African safari and would like to meet his specifications. Abercrombie sends Roosevelt more samples of material, as well as a full product catalog under separate cover.

Letter from Ezra H. Fitch to William Loeb

Ezra H. Fitch of Abercrombie & Fitch informs William Loeb that the company has made several improvements in the design and materials of some items that President Roosevelt ordered for his African trip. Letter from Ezra H. Fitch to William Loeb

Ezra H. Fitch informs William Loeb that Abercrombie & Fitch has sent a metal flask for President Roosevelt as was discussed in a previous letter. Fitch confirms the details regarding a tent ordered by Roosevelt, including its construction and deployment, and says that the tent will be ready in about a week. Fitch offers to send any other items, such as sleeping bags or other camping equipment, for Roosevelt to inspect to ensure it is of good quality.

Letter from Edward North Buxton to Theodore Roosevelt

Letter from Edward North Buxton to Theodore Roosevelt

Edward North Buxton advises President Roosevelt on things that he should consider while planning for his upcoming safari in Africa. He recommends that Roosevelt visit British East Africa rather than German East Africa, because Roosevelt would be more likely to get the game that he wants to hunt there. Buxton also advises Roosevelt on the gear that he should bring, including collapsible stools, tents, and guns. He offers to lend Roosevelt a camera if Kermit Roosevelt would like to practice photography and take pictures on the trip.
