Letter from Theodore Roosevelt to Leonard Wood

Letter from Theodore Roosevelt to Leonard Wood

Theodore Roosevelt tells General Wood that his M1903 Springfield rifle is worn out and asks if, given he used to be Commander-in-Chief, the Army could make him a rifle of the newest model but with the same stock, sights, and trigger-pull specifications. He offers to send his old rifle so they know its exact specifications. He also asks that the rifle be fitted to fire U.M.C. 172 gr. cartridges.

Letter from I. L. Lippencott to Theodore Roosevelt

Letter from I. L. Lippencott to Theodore Roosevelt

The Winchester Repeating Arms Company addresses Theodore Roosevelt’s complaints about the guns they sent. The sights were put on temporarily to be used when testing the special ammunition. When the guns are given the extra thick pads, they will also be the dimensions Roosevelt requested. They will also get ivory sights stained “a little pink” for Roosevelt. Remaking the stocks will cause a delay of three weeks in gun delivery.

Letter from Theodore Roosevelt to the Winchester Repeating Arms Company

Letter from Theodore Roosevelt to the Winchester Repeating Arms Company

President Roosevelt would like a Winchester gun that shoots the same ammunition as his Springfield, and requests more ammunition as well. Roosevelt says the guns should not be sent to Aden to be reshipped, but should be sent to London and thence to Mombasa. Kermit Roosevelt will carry one rifle with him, and Theodore Roosevelt will have another, the balance should be shipped with almost all of the ammunition far enough in advance to receive cable confirmation that they have arrived before Roosevelt himself does.
