President Roosevelt congratulates Florence Spring Rice on the birth of her son. Roosevelt would congratulate Cecil Spring Rice, but being a father himself, he knows fathers “don’t count for much.” He gladly accepts the role of godfather.

Cecil Spring Rice asks Edith Kermit Carow Roosevelt if President Roosevelt would be his son’s godfather, which would simply give permission to use the name. He will be leaving for Stockholm, but Florence Spring Rice, who handled the pregnancy well, will of course be staying home.
