Kenneth M. Ellis is pleased with Representative Greenway’s appointment to the Mount Rushmore National Memorial Commission. Ellis’s work publicizing the monument has been inspired by Gutzon Borglum’s vision.

Thomas Robins was delighted with Gutzon Borglum’s dissatisfaction over Calvin Coolidge’s inscription for the Mount Rushmore National Memorial. He suggests that Borglum meet with Andrew Fleming West, who has mastered “monumental English.” Robins also praises Borglum’s statue of John Campbell Greenway, which Robins feels was “worthy of the subject.”

Borglum reviews the historical scope the inscription should encompass and also the concerns that Representative Millard has regarding adoption of the inscription.

Gutzon Borglum encloses a letter from Jackson R. Garrett and discusses how he might give Garrett a job at Mount Rushmore. Borglum has carried the load of Mount Rushmore as long as he can, and if the committee does not relieve him he will stop the work.
