Representative Olcott has received the letter from President Roosevelt stating that in light of a statement from Representative Herbert Parsons, he should withdraw from the running to be party chairman. Olcott fears that if he withdraws, in spite of Parsons’s statement declaring his independence, it will appear to be a victory for former Governor of New York Benjamin B. Odell’s faction.

He has heard from James R. Sheffield that such a syndicate does not exist. If President Roosevelt would like Robinson to make a statement, he will, but would like advice about how to do so.

William D. Washburn has been trying to prevent the removal of the United States District Attorney in Minneapolis, Minnesota, due to opposition from the local political machine. Washburn would be pleased if William Kent could write to Philip Battell Stewart and James R. Sheffield to see if they would be willing to write to President Roosevelt on behalf of Washburn.
