President Roosevelt congratulates his son Kermit on his grades. Roosevelt is sorry for Archie, as he tries very hard, but his grades are not very good. He describes a walk he recently took with Fitzhugh Lee, John McIlhenny, and Cecil Andrew Lyon. Douglas Robinson and Corinne Roosevelt Robinson are currently visiting and having a nice time. They are disappointed that Stewart Douglas Robinson has been expelled from Harvard.

President Roosevelt enjoyed reading Frederick Scott Oliver’s book on Alexander Hamilton, and sends him some of his related thoughts. Roosevelt greatly prefers Hamilton to Thomas Jefferson, and feels that Jefferson largely did harm to the United States, although he acknowledges that there were several points on which Jefferson was better than Hamilton. Roosevelt remarks on Oliver’s statement that he lacks direct familiarity with American politics, and invites him to visit the United States and come to the White House.

Hiltz informs Theodore Roosevelt that he was elected as an Honorary Vice President of the American Association for the Conservation of Vision by its board of managers, alongside several other notable figures. Hiltz urges him to lend his name to the organization, which works toward the prevention of blindness.

She looks forward to Roosevelt’s speech on behalf of the Berry School. She sends a pamphlet she wrote about preserving the old Schuyler Mansion, the purchase of which was approved by Governor John A. Dix.
