Theodore Roosevelt writes his sister Anna that he does not have much time to write a letter because he is so busy. He writes to his sister about the chances of being in attendance at Jack’s wedding. He also thanks his sister for purchasing a present for Nannie.

President Roosevelt promises to get John Ellis Roosevelt’s daughter, Gladys Roosevelt, the invitation to Ethel Roosevelt’s ball at once. Edith Kermit Carow Roosevelt is “up in arms with everybody,” and says that she knows she sent an invitation to both Gladys and Jean Roosevelt.

Following a recent telegram he sent, President Roosevelt writes to his cousin, John Ellis Roosevelt, to express his sympathy for the recent death of Robert Barnwell Roosevelt–President Roosevelt’s uncle, and John Ellis Roosevelt’s father. Roosevelt wishes he could attend the funeral, but the circumstances at present in Congress will not allow him to leave Washington, D.C. He asks John to explain the matter to Robert B. Roosevelt, another cousin.

Roosevelt wishes President Roosevelt and his family a merry Christmas.

Secretary of State Root informs President Roosevelt that from now on he will ensure work on Sundays is strictly confined to the secretary and assistant secretary. Root asks if they can work on matters regarding the Far East on Sunday, and focus on the Near East and Europe on Monday. A handwritten note at the bottom from Roosevelt reads, “Dear Nannie, This is a characteristic Rootian note.”
