Letter from Theodore Roosevelt to William H. Taft

Letter from Theodore Roosevelt to William H. Taft

President Roosevelt tells William H. Taft that his playing golf is causing a public stir, and he hopes Taft will avoid it until after the election. Roosevelt agrees with Jones on the religious topic, and sends a letter from John Sleicher with an article by Charles M. Harvey, which might garner support among Jewish voters. Roosevelt feels the East will see a mostly positive political outcome, with the railroad situation being handled fairly and a top man being put in charge at the Chicago headquarters.

Telegram from William Loeb to W. A. Patton

Telegram from William Loeb to W. A. Patton

William Loeb requests that another representative be sent in place of Mr. McCoy for the rest of the Presidential trip. The request should not be interpreted to McCoy’s detriment as he is obviously knowledgeable in railroad matters. However, he does not possess the “peculiar qualifications necessary for the conduct of a Presidential tour” and does not get along well with the other members of the party.

Letter from Fred W. Sargent to William Loeb

Letter from Fred W. Sargent to William Loeb

Fred W. Sargent responds to a letter from William Loeb regarding Major B. B. Ray. Sargent reports what he knows of Ray, but recommends that Loeb consult with E. E. Clark, who can better assess whether Ray could be of value to the administration in the coming campaign of 1904, especially with regards to influencing railway employees. For himself, Sargent believes the railway men will vote solidly for President Roosevelt.
