President Roosevelt likes the proofs that Robert Bridges has sent, and began marking which illustrations he thought could go on the book. Once he has gone through all the proofs, he hopes Bridges will be able to visit him to go over the matter together. Roosevelt wants to be sure to only put in pictures which will mean something to the reader, and not only those that are significant to him. He encloses an appendix to the book.

Roosevelt’s friend, Alexander Lambert, will be accompanying him on the trip and plans to take some photographs. Roosevelt suggests Bridges get in touch with Lambert to give him tips about such photography.

Roosevelt is upset by the way Joseph Benson Gilder has proposed to publish his writing as if it had been a special article and not a foreword to the book, and has consequently prohibited its publishing.
