Lyman Abbott and his children will be honored to have dinner with President Roosevelt and Edith Kermit Carow Roosevelt. Abbott is pleased with all of the initial articles that Roosevelt sent to be published for The Outlook. He advises Roosevelt to allow his article on socialism to be published and that he make his 1910 Romanes Lecture about his trip to Africa. Abbott discusses other articles that Roosevelt wrote, including one that will be published to celebrate Abraham Lincoln’s birthday.

John O’Hara Cosgrave of Everybody’s Magazine tells William Loeb that a proof of the issue President Roosevelt and other naturalists compiled addressing the nature fakers controversy should reach Roosevelt soon. Cosgrave has been in contact with Roosevelt’s collaborators Edward B. Clark and Edward William Nelson, and Clark has been in contact with George Shiras regarding their contributions to the issue.

Letter from Lawrence F. Abbott to Theodore Roosevelt

Lawrence F. Abbott sends President Roosevelt a defensive explanation of an editorial that appeared in The Outlook about Roosevelt’s “Muck Rake” speech. Roosevelt had written two letters to Abbott’s father expressing his displeasure with the editorial. Since Abbott’s father was away in New England, Abbott explains his view that Roosevelt’s address was “courageous, significant and far-reaching.”

Letter from Samuel Hubbard to Theodore Roosevelt

Publisher Samuel Hubbard tells President Roosevelt that he spoke with his correspondent Wheeler and learned more regarding a deer that seemed to have been attacked by a cougar. Hubbard had been investigating what happened to the deer, which had been taken to a taxidermist. Hubbard then asks for Roosevelt’s permission to have their correspondence published in Sunset Magazine. (Page 3 of the letter is missing.)
