He requests additional insight about Roosevelt’s time in the New York legislature and about publishing a story concerning his parents from his boyhood. Owen Wister describes his recent work for General Wilson’s book The Presidents of the United States, 1789-1914. He is writing the section about President Roosevelt and has refused Wilson’s request to include a short piece about Edith Kermit Carow Roosevelt. The work has taken many hours, although it was difficult to create an appropriate tone in such a short piece.

C., for the meetings but he needs to stay in New York to help “in the fight with Tammany.” Riis hopes to write a biography of President Roosevelt, but the offers he has received were not suitable. He does not want the book to be a “catch penny life.” He will discuss the matter with Roosevelt when they are able to meet in person.

Letter from William Allen White to Theodore Roosevelt

William Allen White cautions against the publication of a biography of President Roosevelt as Roosevelt’s “life is only beginning.” He suggests that if Roosevelt is the 1904 Republican presidential candidate a biography could be fuller and more valuable. White spoke with Cyrus Leland regarding the potential charges against Leland. He was pleased that Leland is comfortable standing by his record.
