Outlear sends Roosevelt a copy of his address to the organization’s members. The chairman of the country Republicans is aware of the organization of African American Republicans and hopes Roosevelt will provide a word of encouragement to add to the Republican cause.

Theodore Roosevelt thanks Walter H. Foster for the letter and is sure Foster will understand that it is better for him not to comment on “the Massachusetts situation.” Roosevelt also asserts that the Progressives must give up the idea of running him for the presidency again. The most important thing is to get a “thoroughly good man upon whom the anti-Democratic sentiment can unite” as President Woodrow Wilson is, in Roosevelt’s eyes, “one of the worst Presidents we have ever had.”

Roosevelt says Indiana and New York are two states where the Republican Party should put in its best efforts, and he thinks Corporal Tanner, Senator Fairbanks, and several others can do the best work in Indiana. Roosevelt further thinks William Jennings Bryan’s actions in Indiana, Colorado, and Montana should be closely monitored.

Chairman Adams writes to President Roosevelt describing the North Carolina Republican State Convention. Adams was elected chairman of the state Republican Party at the convention and believes the convention was a success. Adams assures Roosevelt that as chairman, he will not allow patronage hiring. He asserts that Roosevelt is very popular with the people of North Carolina and if harmony persists in the Republican Party, it will have great success in North Carolina.

Senator Mitchell of Oregon tells George B. Cortelyou, Chairman of the National Republican Committee, of the work that Henry Waldo Coe has done in the organization of the Roosevelt League of Oregon, in addition to his professional work in Portland, Oregon. Mitchell relays some details of a contract that Coe is interested in with the government, and would like to assist him if at all possible, and asks Cortelyou to speak with Secretary of the Interior Ethan Allen Hitchcock or President Roosevelt on the matter.

Traitors to Low in Republican ranks

Newspaper article describing political infighting during the New York City mayoral election. The Republican party’s “fusion” candidate, Seth Low, is not supported by some of the party and efforts were made to make sure he was not elected. However, the party discovered and warned defectors that party support would be behind Low.
