A Roosevelt Club has been formed in Evanston, Illinois. Club President Allen and Secretary Smith inform Vice President Roosevelt that they hope to support him for the presidential nomination at the next convention.

E. Mont Reily and the Roosevelt Club of Kansas City, Missouri, was pleased to hear that Senator Foraker would support the nomination of President Roosevelt for the 1904 election. The club is interested in hosting Foraker for a speech.

E. Mont Reily has organized about twenty additional Roosevelt clubs and will only endorse members who will “keep the good work going.” He approves the appointment of his friend, George W. Burroughs, as postmaster at Fort Worth, Texas.

As per the previous request of President Roosevelt, Representative Frank B. Klepper investigated the Roosevelt Club of Kansas City, Missouri. Due to William McKinley’s assassination, he has decided not to send the report as it seems improper at the present time. Roosevelt has Klepper’s support and the support of Missouri.

Alexander O. Brodie requests Vice President Roosevelt’s opinion on the proper timing for setting up Roosevelt clubs in Arizona for the 1904 presidential campaign. He hopes “strong action” is taken in response to the attempted assassination of President McKinley.

E. Mont Reily’s Roosevelt Club No. 1 has over two thousand members. Everyone was shocked by the attempted assassination of President McKinley but Roosevelt’s bearing during the crisis has increased his political support.

E. Mont Reily advises Vice President Roosevelt to ignore the Scott matter. Efforts are underway to prevent Mr. Scott’s reappointment. The newspaper in Independence, Missouri, has declared its support for Roosevelt and Reily will soon be setting up a club in Independence.

William Allen White will be traveling to Washington, D.C., in a few days and would like to help Max Yingling leave the army. He will also be visiting Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and New York. White will be meeting with E. Mont Reily to “straighten out” his efforts at starting Roosevelt clubs across Kansas. He recommends avoiding David Winfield Mulvane until the truth of an ugly story can be investigated.

William Allen White received a letter from E. Mont Reily who is distressed that Kansans are not responding to his Roosevelt clubs. White plans to “straighten him out” with a visit on his way to Washington, D.C. He requests a letter of introduction to Comptroller of the Currency Charles Gates Dawes.

Vice President Roosevelt’s visit to Illinois went well and everyone seems to be for Theodore Roosevelt. Roosevelt clubs have formed in Englewood and Evanston, Illinois. Solomon Hicks Bethea believes that many more clubs could be started but is unsure if the time is right.

Thomas J. Jackson introduced Representative Charles Curtis in Hutchinson, Kansas, and was impressed by all of the Roosevelt supporters. Roosevelt clubs are appearing across Kansas. Jackson plans to be in Washington, D.C., next session and hopes that Senator Joseph Ralph Burton can help him find a position.

G. Merchin requests permission to begin the ground work for Vice President Roosevelt’s 1904 presidential campaign in Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. Merchin would like to set up several Roosevelt clubs and Winston Churchill has agreed to help in New Hampshire.
