A Roosevelt club composed of African Americans, the 1904 Colored Roosevelt Club No. 4, has been formed with around 100 members. E. Mont Reily, the founder of the first Roosevelt club, presented the new club with a constitution and bylaws.

Governor Roosevelt declines a visit to the Cowles’s residence, as he must work on state business every day until after his next trip out West. Roosevelt describes aspects of the political campaign that he finds frustrating and difficult, although he believes his ticket will win the election in the end.

Work of the Constitution Club

Henry W. Taft writes in the New York Evening Post regarding the Parker Constitution Club and their desire to investigate the actions of President Roosevelt. The club is composed of lawyers who challenge the constitutionality of some of Roosevelt’s actions, but Taft does not believe they will make their investigation impartially. Taft suggests they change their name to the Parker Democratic Club in order to more accurately reflect the club’s political views.
