Letter from Mary F. L. Suydam to Theodore Roosevelt

Mary F. L. Suydam writes to Theodore Roosevelt about articles she’s enjoyed in the Outlook. She also expresses displeasure over showings of the opera Salome in Philadelphia from a few years prior and how the mayor of Philadelphia, John E. Reyburn, did not stop the performances. She claims that the literate African American population in Philadelphia agrees with these views. She hopes Roosevelt will visit soon.

Letter from Alexander Konta to Theodore Roosevelt

Letter from Alexander Konta to Theodore Roosevelt

Alexander Konta writes of the “scantiness, unreliability and confusion of the records of the past” and modern technologies being used for commercial rather than historical value. He proposes the Modern Historic Records Association be created in an effort to combine efforts at the local, state, and national level to preserve the historic record, including the voices of men of importance. He hopes that Theodore Roosevelt might look kindly on this idea and will consider joining in the planning of such an undertaking.

Letter from Theodore Roosevelt to Martha Bulloch Roosevelt

Theodore Roosevelt writes his mother from his honeymoon in London. He describes visiting Aunt Hattie and the only thing that marred the visit was the “slobbering” of the younger Bullochs. He also details paintings at the National Gallery and at South Kensington. He took Alice to “ladies day” at Epsom Races, driving in Hyde Park, the opera and Saint Paul’s.
