Letter from James Bronson Reynolds to Theodore Roosevelt

James Bronson Reynolds tells Theodore Roosevelt he received Roosevelt’s note from Helen Suydam Cutting Wilmerding. The case she is interested is in a different county, but Reynolds wrote with advice and suggestions regarding proper procedure under the circumstances. Reynolds is now in charge of the Complaint Bureau of the New York District Attorney’s Office determining the question of prosecution for all cases, though he tries to prevent criminal proceedings whenever possible.

William J. Youngs, United States District Attorney for the District of Eastern New York, writes to William Loeb, Secretary to President Roosevelt, about William Perry, a chief engineer who scored high marks on his examinations who seeks a permanent position on a collier – a type of coal-carrying ship. Youngs says that Congressman William Cocks of New York is helping Perry get this position, and that if successful this will help them all in the good work they are doing.
