Letter from Corinne Roosevelt Robinson to Theodore Roosevelt

Letter from Corinne Roosevelt Robinson to Theodore Roosevelt

Corinne Roosevelt Robinson writes about funding for a memorial for their uncle James King Gracie, who died in 1903. She suggests that a memorial at the Church of the Holy Communion or the Orthopedic Hospital would be fitting since Gracie was buried from that church and the hospital received money from Gracie’s will.

The role of Theodore Roosevelt’s family in the founding of the New York Orthopedic Hospital

The role of Theodore Roosevelt’s family in the founding of the New York Orthopedic Hospital

Linda Shookster describes how Anna Roosevelt Cowles’s debilitating back condition, Pott’s Disease, led to a long-standing relationship between her family and the New York Orthopedic Hospital. Shookster describes the disease, notes how Cowles was treated by orthopedic surgeons, especially Charles Fayette Taylor, and looks at the role played by Cowles’s father, Theodore Roosevelt, in founding and funding the New York Orthopedic Hospital. Shookster concludes the essay by highlighting the work performed by members of the Roosevelt family in support of the hospital after the death of Roosevelt.

Three illustrations and four photographs, including ones of Cowles, Taylor, Roosevelt, and the hospital, accompany the text.
