Archibald B. Roosevelt is recovering well from his surgery and is excited to return to Groton. President Roosevelt was touched by the fondness Archie showed Kermit Roosevelt before and after the surgery. Roosevelt also tells Kermit about a walk he had taken with several friends in which they lost French Ambassador J. J. Jusserand in the woods and an enjoyably informal dinner with several hunters.

President Roosevelt updates his son Kermit on the horses Audrey and Achilles and recounts taking exercise which left one of his Secret Service agents, Joseph E. Murphy, “down and out.” Roosevelt is preparing himself for several years of Americans hating him for the financial crisis, but stands by his policies.

William Hamilton Russell, of Clinton & Russell Architects, sent a letter to President Roosevelt supporting the appointment of Joseph Murray as Commissioner of Immigration, and he is unsure if the President ever saw the letter. Russell feels that Murphy is well qualified for any office and hopes that Robinson can put a good word in for him.
