Secretary of War Taft acknowledges receipt of William Loeb’s letter and the enclosures. Taft returns the envelope marked “Boss Loeb” and teases that people are “getting on to” the power that Loeb wields. Taft lists the members of the Republican National Committee about whom his presidential campaign wants to know more. He is interested in what will happen in regards to the New York Post Office.

Commissioner of Pensions Ware informs President Roosevelt of the removal of Mr. Todd from the board of Jackson, Mississippi, which was done at the suggestion of U.S. Marshal Edgar S. Wilson. Lonnie B. Moseley is planning to speak with Roosevelt about this change. Moseley wants Frederick W. Collins to be a referee instead of Wilson, and Ware notes that Moseley “may use the Todd business as a vehicle of appeal.”

Letter from Edgar S. Wilson to Theodore Roosevelt

Edgar S. Wilson forwards a letter to President Roosevelt from Frederick W. Collins and Lonnie B. Moseley, in which they express concerns about a delegation coming to see Roosevelt about political affairs in Mississippi. Wilson has assured the men that Roosevelt would not help anyone who would go against his plans in the state. Wilson suggests that Roosevelt refer any “malcontents” to him, which will calm Collins and Moseley.
