Ames, is a Naval Medical Inspector with an honorable service record, including having served in the Greely Relief Expedition. Dr. Ames has acquired letters of recommendation for his son from many prominent military officers and greatly desires that his son be appointed to fill the last vacant position of naval midshipman.

Secretary of War Root reports to President Roosevelt regarding the appointment of two chaplains after two previous chaplains have left. The two men will be appointed after they present their credentials, and pending approval from Roosevelt. In light of these appointments, an Episcopalian minister, James Fleming, will not be appointed, but will be considered once another opening is available.
