John B. Knight asks Theodore Roosevelt to attend the semi-centennial anniversary in Hancock, Michigan and stresses how much the people of Hancock would appreciate his attendance. Knight and the legislative committee had previously invited Roosevelt to visit  Lansing, Michigan, which he assures Roosevelt was appreciated by the people of Lansing and can be repeated in Hancock.

Chief Forester Gifford Pinchot expresses confidence in the work of the Waterways Commission. He also tells President Theodore Roosevelt that his friend, Wallace D. Simmons, has a “very remarkable” polo pony which he would like to give to the President’s sons providing that if the time comes that the pony is no longer wanted, it is to be returned to Simmons.
