Newell Dwight Hillis has been negligent in forwarding a request to William Loeb to invite President Roosevelt to give a speech in London after his return from Africa. Roosevelt would speak at Queen’s Hall on the general theme of “Democracy in the Republic.” Hillis and Sir Oliver Lodge have given speeches there to large crowds. Hillis hopes for an early reply from Loeb.

Letter from John Graham Brooks to Theodore Roosevelt

John Graham Brooks thanks President Roosevelt for his letter on Alfred Holt Stone. He had already gotten letters about Stone’s Studies in the American Race Problem from Edwin Anderson Alderman, Walter Hines Page, and William Garrott Brown. Brooks also received another edition of Socialism & Individualism. He told Lawrence F. Abbott that it is the most powerful work he has seen in thirty years of reading socialist literature.

He encloses Bishop Stuart’s article on Sir Oliver Lodge’s position. He notes that Roosevelt’s help will not be necessary for the arrival of the Archbishop of Canterbury. McBee informs Roosevelt of his support.
