Joseph G. Darlington tells President Roosevelt that the Union League of Philadelphia has organized a meeting in Roosevelt’s honor and had asked Senator Henry Cabot Lodge and Elihu Root to speak. Darlington explains that at the last minute Root had to pull out and asks if Roosevelt would help him to secure Secretary of State John Hay as a speaker.

Theodore Roosevelt writes to his sister Anna Roosevelt about current happenings with the family. Alice is away at school, and brother Elliott sent Roosevelt a Christmas gift. He and Edith continue to socialize quite a bit. He feels the Civil Service Commission is accomplishing something but his book is not really coming along. Roosevelt goes for scrambles in Rock Creek Park.

Letter from Theodore Roosevelt to Anna Roosevelt

Theodore Roosevelt writes to his sister Anna Roosevelt updating her on the status of things in Washington. The children are now well and he and wife Edith have been doing quite a bit of socializing. Roosevelt’s writing is making “laboriously painful progress” and he had to go to Philadelphia on an investigation. He describes Rudyard Kipling who dined with them.
