Letter from Gifford Pinchot to Theodore Roosevelt

Gifford Pinchot thanks Theodore Roosevelt for sending copies of letters from Meyer Lissner and to President Benjamin Ide Wheeler of the University of California. Pinchot concurs with Lissner that Roosevelt did not hurt the election chances of California politicians Hiram Johnson and William Kent. Some press outlets have reported a falling out between Roosevelt and Pinchot, a rumor which Pinchot thinks needs no answer but would be happy to answer with “the utmost vigor” if Roosevelt desires.

Letter from Francis J. Heney to Theodore Roosevelt

Francis J. Heney sends some letters he received from Meyer Lissner to President Roosevelt. Heney agrees with Lissner’s assessment of the information Frank H. Hitchcock may have received from anyone in Los Angeles, and adds that if he talked to Arthur G. Fisk in San Francisco, Hitchcock would also have received bad information. Heney was unable to meet with Hitchcock since he was tied up in court proceedings, but hopes to travel to Washington after municipal elections in San Francisco on November 5.

Resolution of the Lincoln-Roosevelt Republican Clubs of California

The League of Lincoln-Roosevelt Republican Clubs of California resolves that they will support President Roosevelt in upcoming presidential elections. However, if Roosevelt keeps his pledge not to seek re-election, the League will support William H. Tafts candidacy, believing that he will carry on Roosevelt’s policies.
