President Roosevelt would like the stone lion heads under the mantelpiece in the State Dining Room substituted with stone bison heads, as they are “a much more characteristic and American decoration.” This change will need to be done quickly, and he asks William M. Kendall to consult with Cass Gilbert, as he recently spoke with him and Samuel B. P. Trowbridge about it.

Letter from William W. Hart to Theodore Roosevelt

William W. Hart tells President Roosevelt that the remounting job is complete and the heads have been re-hung at Sagamore Hill. Hart has enclosed bills for the work and discusses some of the details of the taxidermy labor and mentions other work that could be done. Hart looks forward to receiving more “fresh specimens” from Roosevelt to showcase his art.

This postcard shows the Council Chamber of Versailles, which Charles C. Myers notes was also used as a Study and Wig Room by King Louis XIV of France. The room is ornately decorated, and sports a table in the middle of the room underneath a chandelier, while stools sit at either side of a fireplace. Several large mirrors occupy large sections of wall.
