President Roosevelt writes to his son Kermit to describe his trip down the Mississippi River. He describes the history of the river and stops along the way to make speeches. Roosevelt ends by saying that he is going bear hunting.

President Roosevelt informs Governor Deneen that he will only be able to visit Cairo, Illinois, while he is in the Midwest. Roosevelt wishes he could visit the Tri-Cities area but will not have the time to do so.

George Parsons invites Theodore Roosevelt to meet on June 26 or 27, to discuss if Roosevelt would be willing to attend the annual Ohio Valley Improvement Association annual meeting. Parsons notes the meeting will be held in Cairo, Illinois from October 18, 1911 to October 19, 1911, and the meeting coincides with the one-hundredth anniversary of the first steamboat navigation of the Ohio River.
