President Roosevelt agrees with Sternburg that the popularity of polo among military officers could damage their military effectiveness. Roosevelt spoke with Prince Henry of Prussia regarding finding a diplomatic position for Sternburg in the United States, but the Prince did not seem open to the proposition and Roosevelt did not press the issue. However, Prince Henry’s visit went well and reduced some of the friction between the United States and Germany.
