President Roosevelt is pleased to inform Groton School rector Endicott Peabody that Archibald B. Roosevelt is well enough to attend Groton, where “the little fellow will make an honorable pupil.” He will send more information along with reports from Archie’s tutor, Waldo D. Parker. Roosevelt shares that Archie wants to be a naval officer.

President Roosevelt asks Endicott Peabody, rector of Groton School, if he would admit Archibald B. Roosevelt on the recommendation of Thomas W. Sidwell, rather than requiring him to take the normal Groton entrance exams. Peabody arranged for Kermit Roosevelt to be admitted this way, and although Roosevelt does not think Archie will do as well at Groton as his older brother, he still believes he “will succeed.”

Edith Roosevelt is still not in good health and Theodore Roosevelt Jr. is suffering daily headaches. Assistant Secretary Roosevelt discusses his upcoming visit with Anna Roosevelt Cowles.

Assistant Secretary of the Navy Roosevelt discusses his upcoming visit to the Cowles’s house. Edith Roosevelt is only slightly better and may have to wean the baby. Theodore Roosevelt Jr. is still sick, and Kermit Roosevelt is also ill.

Assistant Secretary Roosevelt assures Anna Roosevelt Cowles that it is good her husband is moving between Havana and Key West. He believes President McKinley seeks a peaceful solution but does not know what the administration will do. Edith Roosevelt’s health is improving very slowly and Theodore Roosevelt Jr.’s headaches have returned.

Assistant Secretary of the Navy Roosevelt has asked the Secretary of the Navy to reassign William S. Cowles away from the South. Roosevelt is increasingly concerned over Anna Roosevelt Cowles’s health, as well as that of Theodore Roosevelt Jr. and Edith Roosevelt.
