President Roosevelt responds to Columbia University President Butler about the upcoming peace conference in New York City. Roosevelt chides Butler because he has already addressed the issue of peace, and if he keeps discussing this issue, he is going to appear to the public to be foolish and unpresidential.

Aaron Baker Clark is frustrated with Theodore Roosevelt after reading “Race Suicide.” Baker does not see how Roosevelt could understand the hardships that come with earning $18 a week, and how difficult having a family or living a life of means is with that amount of money.

In response to a call for assistance by the New York Central Railroad, John C. Fleming invested a great deal of effort to create plans for better ventilation in cars. In spite of the plans being judged well suited for the company’s need, Fleming did not receive the promised award. As Senator Depew was on the board involved with awarding the prize, Fleming attempted to meet with him several times, only to be turned away. Fleming now complains to Depew about his treatment of him, and asks that the matter be settled.
