Theodore Roosevelt appreciates the article in The Sun. He chastises the “weak-minded individuals” who describe peace advocates Henry Ford and William Jennings Bryan as “well-meaning.” Roosevelt believes that they are “doing the work of the devil” and have a “tendency to make themselves ridiculous.”

Roosevelt believes the Ford mission is harmful despite the good of Lindsey’s involvement, referring to Henry Ford’s peace ship mission into war-torn Europe. In the context of President Jimmy Carter’s work negotiating a peace treaty between Egypt and Israel, William C. Sexton reviews President Theodore Roosevelt’s mediation of the Russo-Japanese War in 1905 and argues that Roosevelt’s actions set the table for future presidents to act as peacemakers. He looks at Roosevelt’s actions during the negotiations, reviews some of his administration’s other accomplishments, and says that advances in technology like those pioneered by the Wright brothers added to America’s power and prestige.

Deputy Regional Director James B. Thompson commemorates the seventy-five year history of Natural Bridges National Monument. In 1908, Natural Bridges became the first national park area in Utah. Theodore Roosevelt was in the White House, “at that time the youngest man ever to occupy the presidency.” At that time, possibly only about a hundred people had seen Natural Bridges. In 1982, 8.5 million out-of-state visitors came to Utah. Thompson hopes sites like Natural Bridges will always be a source of “wonder and inspiration” for visitors.
