James Sullivan Clarkson has a positive view of Thomas F. McGourin and believes that he should retain his position as a U.S. Marshall in Florida. McGourin is a loyal Republican, which is a rare phenomenon in Florida and the South. John Eagan should be left in his position as U.S. Attorney, and Northrup should be given the post office.

Chairman Chubb describes the Florida Republican State Convention as “enthusiastic and harmonious.” President Roosevelt and his administration were endorsed and a state ticket will be nominated after the Republican National Convention. Chubb does not believe Senator Hanna will be a presidential candidate.

The Florida Republican State Convention met in St. Augustine and a temporary organization was created. Henry S. Chubb, chairman of the State Central Committee, made a short speech endorsing President Roosevelt and his administration.

At the Florida State Republican Convention Mr. Coombs was elected national committeeman, Henry S. Chubb was elected chairman of the state party, and President Roosevelt was endorsed. Delegates to the national convention and congressional nominees were selected.

With Theodore Roosevelt’s assistance, C. Hart Merriam has been able to reach a conclusion regarding the bobcats of the southern Rocky Mountain region. Merriam was interested in seeing large skulls from Colorado to see if they match specimens from the Uinta Mountains. Merriam thanks Roosevelt for his contribution to the Biological Survey, and asks to keep some of the skulls. Merriam also responds to Roosevelt’s request for information about deer. Merriam has not been able to obtain a white-tailed deer specimen from any location in the far west.
