John Campbell Greenway has contacted Ben Daniels and is willing to give him a job as chief watchman at the mine. He will cover Daniels’s immediate financial needs and attempt to have Daniels withdraw his request for a loan from Theodore Roosevelt.

Commissioner Roosevelt notes Robert Harry Munro Ferguson’s resignation in July. Directions have been given to have Ferguson’s check returned. Roosevelt discusses some missing checks and reimbursement to Ferguson and Tilden Russell Selmes on an unspecified investment. Roosevelt has been struggling with a colleague but knows this colleague is having an even more difficult time. Ted Roosevelt recently received some guinea pigs which he adores.

The missing cattle checks have been found and dividends can now be paid for December and June. Commissioner Roosevelt would like Robert Harry Munro Ferguson to attend the Boone and Crockett Club dinner in January. Asa McIlhaney visited and Roosevelt relates an anecdote about Ted Roosevelt helping them chop down a grove of trees.

Print shows Uncle Sam, on the left, giving a bag of money to a man labeled “Socialist” and a bag of money to a man labeled “Businessman,” he tells them “Gentlemen, I have divided the wealth of the country equally among all the people. Here are your shares, now go ahead and be happy!” At center, “The Start”, the two men part ways with the socialist taking the path “To Idleness and Extravagance” and the businessman taking the path “To Industry and Thrift.” On the right, at “The Finish,” the two men again stand before Uncle Sam, this time the businessman is holding two bags of money and the dejected socialist is showing that his pockets are now empty.
