He adds he would like to invite some of his friends to New York.

Theodore Roosevelt writes his mother from his honeymoon in London. He describes visiting Aunt Hattie and the only thing that marred the visit was the “slobbering” of the younger Bullochs. He also details paintings at the National Gallery and at South Kensington. He took Alice to “ladies day” at Epsom Races, driving in Hyde Park, the opera and Saint Paul’s.

They gave a dinner for some of Alice’s Boston friends and met some other Americans. The only useless purchase made the whole trip was a gondola pole he finally sent ahead of them to Liverpool.

Theodore Roosevelt writes Thomas Barbour, the curator of reptiles and amphibians at the Museum of Comparative Zoology, to relay Kermit Roosevelt’s address in Brazil. Roosevelt is pleased with Barbour’s collecting trip in East Cuba. He asks Barbour to write John C. Phillips and have him observe “the desert or Isabella chat, and the black and white chat,” as Roosevelt believes the species behavior is due to their coloration. He invites Barbour and his wife to lunch.

Diary of Theodore Roosevelt from January 1 to July 3, 1886

Diary kept by Theodore Roosevelt while at Elkhorn Ranch in North Dakota from January 1 to July 3, 1886. Pages for April 23 to June 17 are torn out. There were no entries from July 4 to December 31. April 1 tells of Roosevelt’s capture of boat-thieves, as described in Roosevelt in the Bad Lands by Hermann Hagedorn.

Also included are six typed transcript pages of diary text.
